Kevin Allocca (YouTube’s head of trends and culture) :
YouTube is truly global, and we tried to create something that really represented that. That Rewind video gets watched all over the world, not just the US, obviously, so we’re hoping it resonates internationally.YouTube pulled out all the stops for this year’s “Rewind” video, coordinating amongst at least 100 YouTubers, eating up nine days of principal photography, traveling to six location shoots, and hiring five late-night TV hosts. There’s even a "Behind the Scenes" video that captures some of the work that went into this.
Along with the "Turn Down for 2014" video, YouTube also released two playlists namely- "Top Trending Videos of 2014" and "Top Trending Music Videos Of 2014" on the "YouTube Rewind Channel".
YouTube product marketing manager Kinzie Kramer:
It’s fun for us to make because it’s basically like, ‘What’s the community going to love?' If you’ve been watching YouTube all year and this is your thing and you know the creators and the big songs and videos of the year, it’s fun for you.
